To the editor:

The article "20 YEARS LATER, NO PEACE, Mideast accords of 1993 see 
little hope of reality," published September 13, was misleading in 
ignoring the primary reason the Oslo process has been such a dismal 
failure: only one of the parties (Israel) has been interested in an 
accommodation with the other.
 
It was not the "hard-liners" who vetoed peace; it has been the leaders 
of the Palestinian Arabs, Yasser Arafat and the so-called "moderate" 
Mahmoud Abbas who have repeatedly rejected offers to establish another 
Palestinian Arab state in virtually all (in the case of Arafat) and the 
equivalent of all (in the case of Abbas) of the disputed territory.
 
Indeed, Abbas himself admitted back in 2010 that a "peace agreement 
would have been signed a long time ago" if he had shown any flexibility.
 
In these twenty lost years, the Palestinian Authority has so poisoned 
the minds of an entire generation that it will take decades to undo the 
damage and reach the point where there is again, as there seemed to be 
in 1993, a reasonable hope for peace.
